MONOLITH and HYSTERIA MAGAZINE present an Australian tour for the history books…
This September and October, Japan’s PALM and Australia’s A SECRET DEATH will be pushing the concept of touring down under to its limits. From huge festival shows in Brisbane and Melbourne, to the oft-forgotten capitals of Perth and Hobart, stops in regional Victoria, the tropical reaches of North Queensland, and even the dead center of Australia’s Northern Territory, where the bands will not only play Alice Springs, but Santa Teresa (an indigenous community that has never before been visited by such a tour), this run has it covered. Eighteen shows in four weeks, encompassing all eight states and territories of Australia. Two bands, one tour manager, and one cameraman to capture it all for a forthcoming cinematic experience – but more on that later…
Over the last decade PALM has remained a steadily rising force in Japanese metal and hardcore circles, with a consistently brutal live show that has seen their name become revered and recognized as leading their nation’s heavy music scene. In 2012, the Osaka-based four piece dropped their second album ‘My Darkest Friends’ through Alliance Trax in their home nation, the pummelling and chaotic collection of songs then gaining the attention of US label Six Feet Under for a 2013 vinyl release. With Japanese tours and supports alongside the likes of Black Breath, Terror, Converge, The Red Chord, Between The Buried And Me, Parkway Drive and many more already under their belts, this year has seen the band make their way to the USA for the first time ever for an appearance at the annual ‘Chaos In Tejas’ fest, followed by a tour with Nails and Xibalba. Their forthcoming journey marks the band’s first time in Australia since their 2007 tour with the now-defunct The Rivalry.
Having remained inactive since 2010, the Gold Coast’s favorite bastard sons A SECRET DEATH have returned. With a slightly rejigged lineup, the atmospherically massive metallic hardcore group jumped back into action earlier this year in support of Norma Jean across their Australian tour. Currently hard at work on a second album, the band’s jaw-dropping 2008 self-titled record (released locally through Skull & Bones Records as well as Tribunal Records in the USA) secured their place in the upper echelon of Australia’s forward-thinking heavy acts. Having previously toured the country with such groups as Every Time I Die, Darkest Hour, The Amity Affliction, and Hopeless, as well as scoring countless supports with acts as massive as Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Sick Of It All, Cult of Luna and more, this epic adventure will be the band’s largest touring undertaking yet.
